Public History Projects
All Saints Church, ca. 1880-1910. USC Digital Library.
Over the past dozen years, I’ve participated in a number for public history projects for a variety of clients — from the City of Los Angeles, to the State of California, the LA Conservancy, FortLA, All Saints Church in Pasadena, and various municipalities around Los Angeles.
A few examples include:
The “Altadena Historic Context Statement,” funded by the Getty Foundation (2026)
The “Historical Housing and Land Use Study” for the City of Los Angeles (2024)
2025 Los Angeles Conservancy Project Award
2025 Preservation Design Award for Cultural Resource Studies, from the California Preservation FoundationSurvey LA, a broad-based survey of the historic resources across the entire city. I wrote historic context statements on the history of suburbanization, the history of Latinos, the history of labor, the history of Jews, and other topics.
The “History of Mail Order Homes in Los Angeles,” with the assistance of my daughter Marina Weisenberg. “Mail Order Homes in Los Angeles,” Fort LA Trail, April 2024
“Telling the Whole Story: The Land We are On,” a reparative justice project for All Saints Church, Pasadena. Read more about this work at:
“Telling the Whole Story: The Land We are On,” All Saints Church, Pasadena.
“At Church Building’s Centennial, All Saints Report Candidly Tells the Whole Story of the Land It Occupies,” Pasadena Now,” Nov 6, 2023.
